In honor of my Grandmother

65

By Robin Barnes

Through Grandma's Eyes

While sifting through old pictures

Of years so long ago

Looking at faded images

Of people I did not know

I found myself wondering

About these peoples lives

Then suddenly I realized

As I looked into her eyes

It took me but a moment

To regonize her face

To realize her elequence

And her mannerism of grace

I think it was the first time

That I saw her in this way

Standing in all of her glory

I was honestly swept away

For once I did not see her

Kneading dough for our bread

I saw a young woman

With her whole life ahead

I did not see the lines

That so deeply mark her face

I saw hopes and dreams

Wrapped in ribbon and lace

First I felt such sadness

Over years that swiftly go by

Then she walked into the room

And I looked into her eyes

With every line upon her

Was a true memory made

From the innocence of yesterday

To the debts that she paid

I am proud to be a part

Of days long gone by

And I will always have gratitude

When I look into Grandma's eyes

My grandmothers are long gone. I miss-m a big bunch. It’s great to see a new HUBBER and welcome to HUB writing. I found I enjoyed this very much. You have this laid out beautifully and it is easy to understand. Keep up the great HUBS. I must give this an “Up ONE and awesome.” I'm always your fan! RJ

Robin, I had a similar experience in being dazzled by youthful photos of my paternal grandmother and then feeling grateful when I looked into her eyes. This poem is a touching tribute to the enduring, endearing value of your grandmother.

Beautiful.

Kind regards, Stessily
